Terms used in fanfiction
Common terms used in fanfiction
Alternate Universe: Also known as AU. A fanfiction that has been written in an alternate universe means that, although the author uses the characters of a series, the storyline is different.
An example of alternate universe: Edward Elric has lost his arm and leg in a car accident instead of during his attempt to perform human transmutation.
Crossover: A crossover means two or more series are used when writing a fanfiction. The intention is often to create a parody, though this is not necessary.
An example of crossover: Edward and Alphonse Elric are searching for the Philosopher's Stone, as well as Harry Potter and his two friends. The two groups can work together, or view it as a contest of who gets to the Philosopher's Stone first.
Disclaimer: A necessary addition when one is writing fanfiction or drawing fanart. A disclaimer must always refer to the original creators of the series, book, film or game you

How Not to write a Mary Sue
How Not To Write A Mary Sue
So, what is a Mary Sue? It is used as a form of criticism in literature and refers to an idealised and somewhat "perfect" character that appears to have no flaws or if they do they are so limited that all the "perfect" characteristics overwhelm them making the character "flat." Mary sue often refers to a young female protagonist and male "Mary Sues" are often called "Larry Stu".
From my experience most Mary Sues are written in non-published works usually by young writers especially in fan-fiction. However there are a few Mary Sue writers who are actually published (sadly). It shows a deep lacking to create perfect characters unless it's done for satirical purposes.
So why should you avoid writing Mary Sues? Simple, perfect is boring!
We don't like perfect, we don't want perfect! Ask anyone in a relationship to list the positives traits, charms and idiosyncrasies of their partner and I guarantee at least one will be something that is weird, annoying, bizarre

How to write a summary
NOTE!: This is a random tutorial that I wrote because of all the people I know that say they can't write a summary. I have left plenty of other info in the artist comments so go read that if you must, now! Oh, and I am looking for errors so tell me if you spot any, I need to change them, ktnxsbai!
-!--#-$-%-^-&-*-(-)-
HEY! Have you always wanted to write a summary that was so good your readers read the summary more than your story? Well I hope not, then no one would be able to read the writing would they. But have no fear, although I may not be the most amazing writer ever I’m sure I can give you some basic tips on how to write a good summary that makes all the people who read it want to read the story right there and then.
Now I’m not saying you are incapable of writing one, no, everyone can. But, there are certain ways you can write it to ensure that people are going to read it. Obviously you need a nice story title, if there isn’t a good title people might not
